Trevelino/Keller Launches Free-Net

Demand is up in the marketplace for freelancers. And while we focus on full-time staff to manage our client needs, we are always looking for ways to foster opportunity in the marketplace. So this week we launch Free-Net, a Freelancer Communications Network promoted by Trevelino/Keller on PRStarbase and within our larger network of relationships. We will be identifying freelancers across skill sets -- Media Relations, Investor Relations, Community Relations, Public Affairs, Research, Event Management -- and industries -- Technology, Healthcare, Retail, Green, Lifestyle, Food&Beverage. Free-Net members must be invited to join. If you are interested in being considered, please send us a message expressing your interest and area(s) of qualification. Also, make sure your page is updated with company background.

Help Me, Help You.

As I'm perusing the site for candidates for an upcoming position, I am inclined to pull up people's pages to read, at a minimum, their resume. I am inclined to think that because that's the recommendation we gave you when you joined the site. It seems for every five people on this site, two have failed to get the message. Instead of find irrelevant news feeds and poorly chosen photos. Help me, help you. Load your resume to your page. If you want to include photos of yourself highlighting your interests, personality, have at it. Be smart, but have at it. Thanks.

New Job Board Tab Debuts
In order to simplify communications, we have created a separate Job Board tab for our members to click on and find only job postings as opposed to that content being posted within TK Insights. We encourage you to visit PR Starbase at least weekly because we will be posting full-time and freelance work more regularly.

Hispanic Heritage Month, not just another fiesta

Neither torrential rains nor citywide flood warnings could keep tens of thousands of spectators from descending upon Conyers, Ga. this past Oct. 20 for the second annual Fiesta Georgia – Atlanta’s largest outdoor event in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month,...

Twitter Addict?

I was faced with a harsh reality this morning when I went to log on to Twitter and the page was "not found". What's going on I asked myself? So I tried Twhirl (desktop application for Twitter)... "no updates". All...

Reliving Back-to-School Time Vicariously

It's Back to School time! I remember well the excitement of the first day of school. New books, new clothes, new shoes, new backpack and the smell of disinfectant in every classroom. Then came the first day of college. Driving...

Back to School Timing. What’s Your Take?

This weekend is Georgia's annual Tax-Free Holiday weekend - a big shopping weekend, especially for back-to-schoolers. It is hard to believe that kids are starting school already. It seems like the days of being out from June - September are...

A first-hand account of Hispanic motivators at work

On a particularly gorgeous Saturday afternoon, I found myself working indoors, sucking down ice water to keep at bay the stifling heat from the broken A.C. and the powerful set lights. And as I waited for answers from a set...

Following-up on Online Job Applications

I have pressed the "Apply Here" button more times than I can count over the past few weeks. And now its time for follow-up because the rule of thumbs 7-10 days is steadily approaching for many of the positions. This morning when my calendar alert popped up to "Follow-up with XYZ" I began thinking, "How in the heck am I going to follow-up with an online job board portal?" So, I went on over to Twitter and D @heatherhuhman "How do I follow-up with submitted resumes to online employment portals tha… Continue

Informational Interviews...A key Networking Tool II

Again I embark on the adventure of networking with local PR professionals as I seek to build my core network of supporters. This morning was on to Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen to meet with Director of PR and Communications Alicia Thompson. Overall much of the advice given was very insightful and mirrored that of the first informational interview.

1. Gain varied experience...corporate, agency--both national/internationl and boutique, and try out different industries. Doing so shows adaptability and… Continue

Informational Interviews...A Key Networking Tool

Flat is the new up as far as the economy is concerned thus far, which is seemingly the outcome of the job market for new PR professionals as well. As I, and many others seek to find our first full-time position in such an unpredictable time, the best tid bit of advice I have been given is to "Build Your Network"...seems so easy right? Not so much, being a member of PRSA or other trade organizations has little relevance unless your participation leverages the growth in your network for the positi… Continue

L'affaire Sanford

I am sure at least a few of you have been following this whole bizarreness over South Carolina’s Governor Mark Sanford “hiking of the Appalachian Trail.” Leaving aside politics and morality, is there anything (other than the creation of a fantastic new euphemism for acting shady) we PR/communications and aspiring PR/communications professionals can take-away from how the Gov.’s comm. staff handled this sad story?

Any ideas how we as a communications professional can handle a negative PR storm w… Continue

Welcome To PRStarbase

Initially, we launched PR Starbase as a recruitment community where public relations and marketing professionals could find career opportunities, advice and feedback regarding their search. A few interview camps and a few hundred members later, we want to expand our focus. We will continue to rely on PR Starbase as an important recruitment vehicle for our firm and other firms and corporations, not just in Atlanta, but nationwide.

However, we want PR Starbase to bigger than a job engine. We see it as a community where the brightest minds will share their insights, stories and experiences related to the public relations and marketing industries. Because we are a Ning community, we are more than a blog, more than a community, more than a recruitment destination. So we encourage you to participate and to socialize our community like we know you can do.
